Percebes, the very first compilation album is out!

From piano house rave, bluesy downtempo or african influence music, you can find a diverse and unique world in this first instalment for Percebes artists. Produto Interno Bruto (means Gross Domestic Product) compilation is an eclectic music selection pointing a promising future for this new label from Lisbon.

Tell us about the concept of this compilation?
Produto Interno Bruto translates to Gross Domestic Product. It means that the Percebes musical family is seriously talented and can deliver heavy tracks with great quality on demand. We challenged our artists and friends (local and international) to deliver what they thought would be fitting for this label in a project with this name.
These are all people with whom we are either close with, or we have developed respect and admiration by listening to their music. We either supported their music in the past or we dealt with them in other projects, so we weren't chasing the hottest new hype-producers down to hand us a leftover mediocre track. It's about including those who are close to us and view things with similar perspectives.

Is there any specific sound that unites all these different artists?
The specific influences are clear: there's a sense of respect for the roots of house and urban culture, and those are clear afro-american references. Sometimes, very deep roots (like Daino's bluesy downtempo or Hélder's completely african vibe), other times are more recent references (like Change Request's Prince-like groover or Sheri Vari's hint at old school rave deep house vibes), and lastly there's others that are even more transitory and current (take Eddie Niguel's peak time Detroit inspired stomper or Pedro's MPC jam, a brilliant lo fi jazz house experience). They all reflect respect and reverence for the mastery of those who came before. You can't know where to go if you don't know where you came from.
Besides that, I take a lot of care in mastering. I try to do it in a way that makes all the musical wealth compatible with each other and non-concurrent.

Did your guys promote regular Percebes club nights?
We did some nights, yes. We financed most of the catalogue with our club nights, by investing directly from our DJing sessions.
We had two nights scheduled before COVID hit, one at the main dance floor in Lux, another at Plano B in Porto.
We are waiting for a time where events can be a thing again, if we do something in the meantime, with social distancing and that sort of conditioning, it would have to be very limited and special, I can't spare much detail for now, but we are all DJ's, and we built this platform so we could share our love for the music we play, so it makes every bit of sense to us that we procure solutions for our passion for DJing.
I would suggest you keep an eye out for what we might stir up after September! follow us on instagram, facebook and bandcamp! We are working on our own site too!!
